On a pretty green campus in Phuentsholing, with tree-lined drives and a scenic valley view below, the College of Science and Technology offers undergraduate degree programs in the field of engineering. It holds the honor of being the only engineering college in the country, and offers dormitory housing up to 610 students at a time.
The location is lovely; on a hillside, the college receives warm sunlight and looks out over a winding river by the border of West Bengal, India. Fluttering, multicolored prayer flags adorn the entrance to campus, and a prayer wheel turns nearby.
Here, students pursue Bachelors degrees in Civil Engineering and Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, or Information Technology. Each Thursday, the budding engineers recite prayers together as a school. On the weekends, most students choose to stay on campus, as they prefer the quiet mountain air of their college to the noisy bustle of India below.
The college also provides the opportunity for students to play a variety of sports, such as football, volleyball, basketball, and badminton. Football takes the position of the most popular sport here; fans of the school’s team will proudly tell of their recent four consecutive victories in the local tournament, from 2007 to 2010.
Phuentsholing’s College of Science and Technology holds appeal for prospective students as well as for visitors simply interested in a beautiful location and a taste of Bhutanese college life.
