Three-star Hotel Zangto Pelri sits high on a hill of pine trees overlooking the Punatshang river and Punakha town, which lies about 5km to its southeast. Many of its 45 rooms have balconies overlooking the valley. A trail down through green fields close by is ideal for morning walks.
The wide entrance to the hexagonal main building is done in traditional Bhutanese painted carved wood style, and rooms have wood floors and half-wall wood paneling with auspicious symbols painted onto the walls. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, cable TV, hair dryers, panel heaters, kettles for boiling water, and seating areas. Room service and laundry service are available. All rooms have showers, some have bathtubs.
Wifi is available in the lobby and there is a seasonal (unheated) outdoor pool. Other features include a multi-cuisine restaurant and on-site bar, a conference center with buffet dining, and a gift shop. Massages, facials, and manicures/pedicures are available. The front desk offers safety deposit boxes and foreign currency exchange, and service is 24 hours. Visitors can expect genuine Bhutanese hospitality and friendly service from the staff.
Several sites of interest are close by. A short drive away is famous old Punakha Dzong, the former seat of the Royal Government before the third king moved the seat to Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu. Within 20 to 30 minutes drive of the hotel are Talo monastery and Chimi Lhakhang, built in 1499 on a site blessed by Drukpa Kunley, the “Divine Madman.”
