Samdrup Jongkhar Dzong

Just to the north of Samdrup Jongkhar town, the ripples of the Himalayan foothills finally fade into a wide, open plain as you approach the Indian border.

Samdrup Jongkhar Dzong, a compact two-story building set amongst lush gardens, houses the region's government offices and a traditional courthouse. While the dzong — one of Bhutan's newest — contains the political administration, Samdrup Jongkhar's monastic community resides in the Rabdey Dratshang, behind the dzong itself.
