Just a short walk from the central landmark of Thimphu, Clock Tower Square, and located directly across from the national archery grounds that border the Changlimithang National Stadium, Hotel Kisa is a standout 3-star hotel that offers some amazing views and modern amenities throughout.
Kisa's entrance off Chham Lam is colorfully painted in Bhutanese wood frame style. The hotel has three room levels: singles, twins, and doubles. Rooms have modern appliances, thick wood planks for floors, free wifi, and complimentary daily tea, coffee, and mineral water.
The three doubles are the best rooms on offer. Each has expansive views of the archery grounds across Chham Lam road and the mountains beyond, a queen size bed, modern sink and shower, cable TV, microwave, and refrigerator.
All single and twin rooms are identical, save that travelers desiring a single occupancy room can request a single room and its lower rate. Each single/twin has two spaced twin beds and bathroom fixtures similar to the doubles — but have a bathtub with wall-attached showerhead as well. There are 33 of them.
Every room has an on-wall heater in the bathroom. Laundry services, dry cleaning, and room service are available.
Insider tip: At the single and twin levels, ask for room numbers that end in “7”: these rooms on each of the four floors have unobstructed from-above views over the archery grounds and the adjoining stadium. If you're fortunate enough to stay at Kisa during a public event at the stadium, you're in for a treat. (And by the way, all room numbers ending in “8” have straight-on views over the archery grounds.)
Kisa Restaurant, on the second floor of the hotel, can accommodate up to 60 people in its two dining rooms overlooking the archery grounds. It serves traditional Bhutanese fare, Indian meals and breads a la carte, soups, salads, and sandwiches, and a good selection of vegetarian options. The bar next to the restaurant has local and imported spirits and is open from noon onwards every day, even Tuesdays — which for locals are dry days when no alcohol may be sold in stores.
Kisa Spa (available by appointment between 7 am and 10 pm) offers two jacuzzis, a sauna, and a steam room spread among its 5 treatment rooms. Opened in 2015, the spa has a modern feel and offers a variety of international massage and body treatments to its guests, including hot stone massage and ayurvedic healing techniques.
