Conveniently located in Hong Kong market in the heart of Thimphu town, Sinchula Restaurant is where locals head for authentic, affordable Indian food that tastes great. The setting is somewhat upscale by local standards but still homey, with warm lighting, comfortable seating, and Hindi music playing softly in the background. Service is decent and there's free internet. And they take their food seriously here — Chef Prakash was trained in India and offers up a large and varying menu.
Tandoori meals are served on Friday and Saturday evenings, and on Sundays, a revolving menu of multi-course thali. Recommended a la carte dishes are the kulcha, matar paneer, chingri makhani masala, and beef masala. Unlike some other Indian food restaurants in town, Sinchula does offer meat dishes — but the vegetarian dishes are particularly well done. Sinchula also serves some Bhutanese dishes (like bacon ema datshi) as well as sizzlers, burgers, and Thai salads. Hours are 10 am to 10 pm Wednesday to Monday (closed Tuesdays).
