As legend has it, when a lama from Tibet visited the village of Kanglung long ago, the villagers treated him poorly. Therefore, the village suffered from hailstorms and rain during the winter, and drought in the summer.
When the people understood the great power that the lama possessed, they started treating him as their protector. They gave him the plot of land on which Yongphula Lhakhang was built.
Today, the small lhakhang houses a monastic school.
