Amankora
རི་བོ་ཇིཀྲུ་ཌེཀAmankora Paro is an exclusive 5-star resort in a pine forest next to the majestic ruins of seventeenth century Drukyel Dzong. Though only 30 minutes from the airport in Paro (the only place where international flights can land in Bhutan), its forested grounds convey a sense of serenity and remoteness. With 24 Suites, it's the largest of the five Amankoras spread throughout Bhutan's central and western valleys. Each Suite has a king-size bed, shower, twin vanities, terrazzo-clad bath, and a traditional bukhari (wood-burning stove). All the buildings are built with sloping roofs in natural rammed-earth style, and their clustered layout facilitates a feeling of home and community for travelers. A living room, dining room, library, spa, and outdoor terrace are all in close proximity and warmed by bukhari. As with all Amankoras, meals are served any time of day, adding to the homelike environment. The spa has treatment rooms with hot stone baths, a room for yoga and meditation, and a glass-walled sauna; views of the blue pine forest are just beyond. The large outdoor terrace offers exquisite views over the valley forest below and the ancient dzong above, and is a natural gathering place to relax over drinks and swap stories with other guests.
