Ugyen & Doley Bidha
རི་བོ་ཇིཀྲུ་ཌེཀBuilt over a century ago by the dzongda (district leader) of Haa, Ugyen Farmhouse passed on as a gift to the grandfather of current owner Ugyen. Now, he and his wife Doley Bidha have created an exceptionally fine farm stay experience here. The house consists of three spacious floors, with comfortable beds, running water, and electric space heaters in each room. Water will be gladly heated upon request, and Doley even offers traditional Bhutanese hot stone baths, a luxurious delight for weary travelers. Three guest rooms each can accommodate 2-4 guests, and the family plans to renovate an additional three rooms if guests increase. Doley Bidha and Ugyen share the house with their two children, Doley’s aunt, Ugyen’s father, two puppies and a kitten. Five cows and three horses live happily outside. Visitors can spend time with the animals, learn to cook in traditional Bhutanese style with Doley, visit the farmland, or play darts and archery. Ugyen works the fields, mainly growing organic wheat, potatoes, beans, and cabbage. The potatoes serve as a cash crop, while the remainder of their deliciously fresh produce goes to feeding the family and visitors.
